Target Information

The NOS2 gene in sheep encodes for nitric oxide synthase 2. This enzyme is expressed in the epithelial cells of the liver, lungs, and bone marrow. Its expression can be induced by a combination of lipopolysaccharide and certain cytokines. Nitric oxide, a reactive free radical produced by this enzyme, plays a role in neurotransmission and has antimicrobial and antitumoral activities.
