Proenkephalin-B, also known as prodynorphin, is an endogenous opioid polypeptide hormone. Proenkephalin-B undergoes proteolytic cleavage to produce two types of enkephalin peptides. Prodynorphin is expressed in various tissues and cell types, including endometrium, striatum, and more. Proenkephalin-B is encoded by the PDYN gene in pigs. It is one of the precursors of endogenous opioid peptides. Proenkephalin-B plays a role in pain modulation, reward systems, and communication within our intricate biological network.
