Target Information
Glyceraldehyde-3-phosphate dehydrogenase exhibits dual functions, possessing both glyceraldehyde-3-phosphate dehydrogenase and nitrosylase activities, which contribute to glycolysis and nuclear functions, respectively. This enzyme is pivotal in glycolysis, catalyzing its initial step by transforming D-glyceraldehyde 3-phosphate (G3P) into 3-phospho-D-glyceroyl phosphate. In rabbits, the GAPDH gene encodes this enzyme. In a rabbit model, GAPDH was found to promote cellular uptake of lactoferrin (Lf) through atypical pathways. Specifically, GAPDH enhances the absorption of Lf and improves the efficiency of iron absorption through transport in intestinal epithelial cells.
