Target Information

Monocyte Chemotactic Protein 1, also known as C-C motif chemokine 2, is encoded by the CCL2 gene in rabbits. It functions as a ligand for the C-C chemokine receptor CCR2. By binding to and activating CCR2, it induces a strong chemotactic response and stimulates the mobilization of intracellular calcium ions. MCP-1 expression is significantly increased in atherosclerotic plaques in rabbits and is strongly associated with the presence of oxidized low-density lipoproteins (oxLDL). In addition, MCP-1 further exacerbated the progression of atherosclerosis by promoting monocyte-endothelial cell interactions.
