Target Information
P-selectin is a type-1 transmembrane protein encoded by the SELP gene. SELP is expressed on activated endothelial cells and platelets. It mediates the initial "rolling" of leukocytes along the vessel wall, allowing them to slow down and interact with other adhesion molecules. It acts as a cell adhesion molecule (CAM) on the surfaces of activated endothelial cells, which form the inner lining of blood vessels, and on activated platelets. The expression of P-selectin is triggered through two distinct mechanisms. Initially, P-selectin is synthesized by megakaryocytes and endothelial cells and is then incorporated into the membranes of secretory granules.
