Target Information

In the veterinary field, the outer surface protein A (OspA) of Borrelia afzelii is an important surface protein with high immunogenicity. OspA is abundantly expressed in the tick gut and is a major target for Lyme disease vaccine development. It induces the host to produce high-titer protective antibodies, which can neutralize the bacteria during the tick's blood meal, preventing infection. Additionally, OspA is used in serological diagnosis of Lyme disease to detect specific antibodies in host serum.
