Target Information
Bovine apolipoprotein A-IV (ApoA-IV) is a protein that is primarily synthesized in the small intestine and is associated with the packaging of chylomicrons during fat absorption, being secreted into the intestinal lymph. In circulation, ApoA-IV is found on chylomicron remnants, high-density lipoproteins (HDL), and also exists in a lipid-free form. It plays a role in lipid absorption and metabolism, anti-atherosclerotic effects, platelet aggregation, and thrombosis, as well as glucose homeostasis and food intake. Deficiency in ApoA-IV is associated with atherosclerosis and diabetes, making it a potential therapeutic target for these diseases. Although much is known about the physiological functions of ApoA-IV from rodent models, the cellular and molecular mechanisms of ApoA-IV, and its interacting partners, are less understood.
