Target Information

Bovine galectin 1 (GAL1) is a lectin that plays a multifunctional role in various physiological and pathological processes in cattle. It is known for its affinity to β-galactosides and is involved in immune responses, cell adhesion, cell growth, apoptosis, and the regulation of cell differentiation. GAL1 also participates in the modulation of inflammation and tissue repair. Notably, it has been implicated in the progression of diseases such as cancer, where it can enhance tumor growth, invasion, and metastasis, as well as contribute to immune evasion by tumors. The protein's expression can be upregulated in response to various stimuli, including inflammation and infection, making it a significant biomarker for certain disease states. Its multifaceted functions position GAL1 as an important molecule in both health and disease in cattle.
