Target Information
Bovine cathepsin A (CTSA) is a multifunctional enzyme belonging to the serine protease family, known for its role in the lysosomal system where it protects and activates other enzymes such as beta-galactosidase and alpha-neuraminidase. It also contributes to the inactivation of bioactive peptides like bradykinin, substance P, oxytocin, angiotensin I, and endothelin-I by cleaving one or two amino acids from their C-terminal ends. In cattle, CTSA plays a significant role in the processing of bioactive peptides in various tissues and is involved in the regulation of peptide functions, which can have implications for blood pressure and other physiological processes. The enzyme's activity and expression patterns suggest its importance in fetal development and tissue-specific functions in adult organisms.
