Target Information
Canine Plasma Retinol-Binding Protein (RBP4) is a specific carrier for retinol (vitamin A) in dogs, responsible for transporting retinol from the liver to peripheral tissues. It plays a crucial role in maintaining retinol homeostasis and supporting normal development and function of tissues such as the retina. RBP4 also binds to transthyretin to prevent renal filtration of retinol. In some cases, mutations in RBP4 can lead to congenital eye malformations in dogs due to impaired retinol transport.
