Target Information
Chicken pepsinogen C (cPgC) is a proenzyme secreted in the chicken stomach. It is detected in adult chickens and, along with pepsinogen A (cPgA), participates in gastric digestion. cPgC is activated in the acidic environment of the stomach, converting into active pepsin to help break down proteins. Studies show that cPgC is secreted in smaller amounts but plays a significant role in digestion. Additionally, the cPgC gene is expressed not only in the stomach but also in other tissues, suggesting other potential functions.
