Target Information
Superoxide dismutase [Cu-Zn], which is also known as Cu/Zn superoxide dismutase, destroys radicals that are normally produced in cells and are toxic to biological systems. It is encoded by the SOD1 gene in chickens. By comparing the chicken gene with the SOD1 gene from cattle, humans and Xenopus laevis, it has been shown that important structural features of SOD1 are conserved in the chicken gene.
