Target Information

Ferritin is a universal intracellular protein that stores iron and releases it in a controlled fashion. Ferritin heavy chain is encoded by the FTH1 gene in horses. It has ferroxidase activity. Iron is taken up in the ferrous form and deposited as ferric hydroxides after oxidation.
