Target Information

Feline 1,4-alpha-glucan-branching enzyme (GBE1) is a key enzyme involved in glycogen synthesis, catalyzing the transfer of α-1,4-linked glucosyl units to form α-1,6 branches in glycogen molecules. This branching process increases the solubility of glycogen and reduces cellular osmotic pressure. In cats, GBE1 is essential for maintaining normal glycogen metabolism and energy storage. Mutations in the GBE1 gene can lead to glycogen storage diseases, characterized by abnormal glycogen accumulation and impaired cellular function.
