Target Information
Feline Beta-Hexosaminidase Subunit Beta (HEXB) is a key component of lysosomal beta-hexosaminidase, which degrades GM2 ganglioside in conjunction with GM2 activator protein. Mutations in the HEXB gene lead to GM2 accumulation in neurons, causing severe neurodegenerative diseases like Sandhoff disease. This mutation has been identified in feline models for Sandhoff disease.
