Target Information

In felines, Brevican Core Protein (BCAN) is a proteoglycan highly expressed in the central nervous system, involved in forming the brain extracellular matrix and regulating synaptic plasticity. BCAN plays a role in neuronal development, particularly in differentiation and maturation. It stabilizes molecular networks on neuronal surfaces by binding to hyaluronan (HA) and is involved in synaptic plasticity, post-injury repair, and neurodegenerative diseases like Alzheimer's. Additionally, BCAN is highly expressed in gliomas, where it may promote tumor cell adhesion and migration.
