Target Information
Erythropoietin (EPO) in felines is a hormone produced by the kidneys that stimulates red blood cell production to treat anemia. It is crucial for managing anemia in chronic kidney disease (CKD) where EPO production is impaired. Recombinant human EPO has been used but can cause immune reactions. New cat-specific EPO products, like rfEPO and AAV-based gene therapies, are being developed to reduce such risks.
