Target Information
The H13 subtype virus was initially isolated from gulls (H13N6) in the United States in 1977. Since then, it has predominantly been detected in gulls and shorebirds and is generally considered to have low pathogenicity. The hemagglutinin (HA) protein, a homotrimeric glycoprotein present on the surface of influenza viruses, is crucial for the virus's infectivity. The HA1 subunit, which contains a receptor binding site, facilitates the virus's attachment to specific sialyl sugar chains on the host cell surface.
