Target Information

The avian influenza virus subtype H16N3 was first isolated in 1975 and is now detectable in numerous countries around the world. Genetic segments from other species have been incorporated into H16N3, which may influence its pathogenicity and host range, possibly posing a future threat to both animal and human health. The hemagglutinin (HA) protein, a critical glycoprotein of the influenza virus, plays a pivotal role in the early stages of infection. The HA1 subunit, which contains a receptor binding site, facilitates the virus's attachment to specific sialyl sugar chains on the host cell surface.
