Target Information
Mouse Cytotoxic T-Lymphocyte Protein 4, or CTLA-4, is a protein expressed on cytotoxic T lymphocytes, involved in immune response regulation. In mouse experiments, CTLA-4 is used to study immune checkpoint regulation and immunotherapy potential. CTLA-4 functions as an inhibitory receptor that downregulates T cell activation and proliferation by competing with CD28 for binding to CD80 and CD86 on antigen-presenting cells. This negative regulation is crucial for maintaining peripheral immune tolerance and preventing autoimmune reactions. In cancer immunotherapy, CTLA-4 blockade has been successfully employed to enhance antitumor immune responses by releasing the inhibitory signals and promoting T cell activation. However, this approach can also lead to immune-related adverse events due to the systemic activation of immune responses. Research on CTLA-4 continues to explore the mechanisms of its regulation in different immune contexts and to develop more targeted therapeutic strategies that maximize antitumor efficacy while minimizing side effects.
