Target Information
Tissue Inhibitors of Metalloproteinase 1 is encoded by the sheep gene TIMP1. TIMP-1 is a member of the TIMP family. It acts as a natural inhibitor of the matrix metalloproteinases (MMPs). It is a 30,000 molecular weight glycoprotein that complexes with and inhibits the activity of a family of extracellular matrix-degrading enzymes. Research has shown that the follicular fluid concentration of TIMP1 in sheep increases following a gonadotropin surge.
