Swine L-lactate dehydrogenase A chain (LDHA) is a subunit of the lactate dehydrogenase enzyme, which is a tetrameric protein that catalyzes the conversion of pyruvate to lactate, playing a key role in anaerobic glycolysis. LDHA is predominantly found in anaerobic tissues such as skeletal muscle and the liver, and it has a higher Michaelis constant (Km) for pyruvate, indicating a need for higher pyruvate concentration for maximum enzyme activity compared to LDHB.
