Target Information

Vibrio cholerae is a species of Gram-negative, facultative anaerobic, comma-shaped bacteria. Two serogroups, O1 and O139, are responsible for cholera outbreaks. This zoonotic bacterium is commonly found in various bodies of water and has also been reported to infect aquatic animals. Cholera enterotoxin subunit B directs the A subunit to its target by binding to the GM1 gangliosides present on the surface of the intestinal epithelial cells. It can bind five GM1 gangliosides. It has no toxic activity by itself.
