Target Information

Canine IgA (Immunoglobulin A) is a critical antibody isotype that plays a key role in mucosal immunity, providing a first line of defense against pathogens at mucosal surfaces. It is the predominant immunoglobulin in secretions such as saliva, tears, and respiratory mucus, where it helps neutralize viruses and bacteria. Canine IgA exists in two forms: a monomeric form in serum and a dimeric form in secretions, linked by a J-chain. This dimeric structure enhances its ability to trap pathogens and prevent their adherence to mucosal surfaces. In addition to its protective role, IgA also modulates immune responses by interacting with Fcα receptors on immune cells, contributing to immune homeostasis and tolerance.
