Target Information
Porcine peroxisomal biogenesis factor 19 (PEX19) is a critical protein involved in the biogenesis of peroxisomes, subcellular organelles that play essential roles in lipid metabolism, oxidative stress defense, and other anabolic and catabolic processes. PEX19 is particularly important for the transport and insertion of peroxisomal membrane proteins, a function that is crucial for maintaining cellular homeostasis. In pigs, PEX19 has been implicated in the replication of various viruses, including the influenza A virus. The M2 protein of the influenza A virus interacts with PEX19, which facilitates virus replication by disrupting the function of peroxisomes. This interaction highlights the role of PEX19 in not only cellular biology but also in the pathogenesis of viral infections.
