Target Information
Porcine bone morphogenetic protein 4 (BMP-4) is a multifunctional ligand protein belonging to the TGF-β family, which plays a crucial role in vascular circulation and can activate receptors on vascular cells. It is involved in various processes, including animal organ development, regulation of cell proliferation, and transmembrane receptor protein serine/threonine kinase signaling pathway. BMP-4 is also implicated in the regulation of osteoblast differentiation and is expressed in response to hypoxia, promoting vascular smooth muscle cell proliferation. This protein is considered a marker and driver of vascular calcification, particularly in atherosclerosis, and induces angiogenesis, endothelial cell proliferation, and migration.
