Actinobacillus pleuropneumoniae is a Gram-negative, facultative anaerobic bacterium that acts as a respiratory pathogen in pigs. It has been identified as the causative agent for approximately 20% of bacterial pneumonia cases in swine. Transmission commonly occurs through direct nose-to-nose contact.
