Target Information

β-Lactam antibiotics, which include penicillins, cephalosporins, monobactams, and carbapenems, are characterized by their β-lactam ring structure. These antibiotics inhibit bacterial growth by inactivating penicillin-binding proteins. They hinder the formation of bacterial cell walls by disrupting transpeptidase enzymes, which are essential for creating cross-links between peptidoglycan strands.
