It acts as the molecular scissors, specifically targeting double-stranded DNA and breaking it down into smaller fragments. Deoxyribonuclease 1 is encoded by the DNASE1 gene in cattle. It is a nuclease of relatively low specificity which interacts with DNA in the minor groove.
