Target Information

Exophiala dermatitidis is an opportunistic black yeast-like fungus that causes phaeohyphomycosis. This fungus is characterized by its dark melanin pigmentation, a component of its cell wall. Although E. dermatitidis is globally distributed and ubiquitous, it is rarely isolated from the environment. Phaeohyphomycosis, caused by this opportunistic fungus, has been reported in both humans and dogs.
