Target Information
Anaplasma marginale Major Surface Protein 2 (MSP2) is a pivotal immunodominant protein encoded by a multigene family within the obligate intracellular pathogen Anaplasma marginale. This protein plays a critical role in the immune evasion and antigenic variation of the bacterium, which is responsible for bovine anaplasmosis, a tick-borne disease affecting cattle. MSP2 is characterized by the presence of a hypervariable region (HVR) flanked by more conserved regions. The HVR is particularly mutable and is thought to be a key factor in the antigenic variation that allows the pathogen to evade the host's immune system. The identification of T-cell and linear B-cell epitopes within MSP2 has been crucial for understanding the immune response to Anaplasma marginale infection .
