Target Information

Bovine viral diarrhea virus (BVDV) exists in two types, BVDV-1 and BVDV-2, which are important pathogens in cattle causing a range of clinical manifestations from mild diarrhea to severe mucosal disease and immunosuppression. Both types are RNA viruses belonging to the Pestivirus genus within the Flaviviridae family. The viruses primarily target epithelial cells of the gastrointestinal tract and can also infect lymphocytes, leading to a compromised immune response. BVDV-1 and BVDV-2 share some common antigenic structures, but they also exhibit distinct genetic and antigenic differences that influence their virulence and pathogenesis.
