Target Information

Canine butyrophilin subfamily 1 member A1 (BTN1A1) is a protein associated with lipid metabolism and is a key component of the milk fat globule membrane. It plays a significant role in the formation of lipid droplets within mammary epithelial cells and influences the phospholipid composition of the cell membrane. The absence or reduction of BTN1A1 can alter the size and content of lipid droplets, as well as the transcription of lipogenic genes, suggesting its importance in lipid metabolism regulation. BTN1A1's function extends beyond lipid droplet formation, as it also exerts control over the profile of cell membrane phospholipids, indicating a complex regulatory mechanism involving this protein in mammary cells.
