Target Information
Calcium/calmodulin-dependent protein kinase IV (CaMKIV) is a crucial enzyme involved in the calcium-dependent signaling pathways within cells. It is activated by the binding of calcium/calmodulin complex, which leads to the phosphorylation of various substrates, including transcription factors. One of its key roles is in the nucleus, where CaMKIV can phosphorylate and activate the transcription factor CREB (cAMP response element-binding protein), thereby regulating the expression of genes involved in synaptic plasticity and memory formation. The activity of CaMKIV is tightly regulated, as its dysregulation has been implicated in several neurological and immunological disorders. It is also involved in the immune response, where it can modulate the activation of T-cells and the production of cytokines.
