Target Information
Porcine SIX homeobox 1 (SIX1) is a transcription factor that is evolutionarily conserved and plays a critical role in the development of multiple organs, including the muscle, kidney, and auditory system. This protein is characterized by two conserved domains, the homeodomain (HD) and the Six domain (SD), which contribute to its function in DNA binding and protein-protein interactions. In pigs, SIX1 is exclusively expressed in adult skeletal muscle and is involved in the formation of skeletal muscle fibers by activating the fast-twitch muscle program. Its expression level is higher in fast-twitch muscle than in slow-twitch muscle, suggesting a close relationship with porcine meat quality.
