Target Information
Porcine src kinase associated phosphoprotein 2 (SKAP2) is a protein that plays a significant role in immune cell function, particularly in the regulation of integrin activation and neutrophil effector functions. SKAP2 is involved in the signaling pathways that lead to actin polymerization and integrin-mediated inside-out signaling, which are essential for processes such as cell adhesion, migration, and phagocytosis. In pigs, SKAP2 has been identified as a crucial component in the regulation of β2 integrin-mediated neutrophil recruitment and function. It interacts with the Wiskott-Aldrich syndrome protein (WASp) and is required for integrin activation and neutrophil-mediated immune responses. The absence or dysfunction of SKAP2 can lead to a leukocyte adhesion deficiency (LAD)-like phenotype, characterized by impaired leukocyte recruitment and repeated infections.
