Target Information

Canine interleukin 6 (IL-6) is a multifunctional cytokine that plays a significant role in inflammation, immune regulation, and the acute-phase response. Produced by various cells including fibroblasts, activated T cells, monocytes, macrophages, and endothelial cells, IL-6 is involved in the maturation of B cells and the inflammatory response to infection and tissue injury. It acts on a range of cells such as myeloid progenitor cells, T cells, B cells, and hepatocytes, influencing their proliferation and differentiation. IL-6 is also implicated in the pathogenesis of various diseases, including autoimmune conditions and cancer, and is a valuable prognostic marker in canine critical care, with elevated levels associated with poor outcomes.
