Chicken lambda (CHλ), also known as chicken lysozyme, is an enzyme that plays a crucial role in the innate immune system of chickens. It is a component of the acute-phase proteins, which are produced in response to inflammation or infection. CHλ is capable of breaking down the cell walls of certain bacteria, particularly gram-positive bacteria, by catalyzing the hydrolysis of β-1,4-glycosidic bonds between N-acetylmuramic acid and N-acetylglucosamine.
