Porcine glycine amidinotransferase, also known as AGAT, is a critical enzyme involved in the biosynthesis of creatine, a key molecule in energy metabolism, particularly in skeletal muscle and the brain. This enzyme catalyzes the transfer of the amidino group from arginine to glycine, resulting in the formation of guanidinoacetate, which is then methylated to form creatine.
