Target Information
Porcine interleukin 1 receptor antagonist (IL-1Ra) is a naturally occurring inhibitor that plays a pivotal role in modulating the inflammatory response in pigs. As a member of the interleukin 1 family, IL-1Ra is secreted by various cell types, including immune cells, epithelial cells, and adipocytes. It functions by competitively inhibiting the binding of IL-1α/β to the IL-1 receptor (IL-1R1), thereby preventing the initiation of inflammatory signaling. This protein is particularly important in the context of diseases such as porcine reproductive and respiratory syndrome virus (PRRSV), where it is induced as an early immunomodulatory cytokine, potentially involved in the immunopathogenesis of PRRSV infections.
