Target Information

B23, or nucleophosmin (NPM1), is an abundant nucleolar protein that plays a critical role in the maintenance of genomic stability and regulation of apoptosis. It is implicated in several pathways, such as mRNA transport, chromatin remodeling, and cell proliferation. NPM1 functions not only as a proto-oncogene but also has been reported to act as a tumor suppressor. Its multifunctional role within the cell makes it a significant player in various DNA repair pathways. NPM1 is also involved in the regulation of rRNA synthesis and serves as a histone chaperone, participating in chromatin remodeling and transcription regulation. Mutations and dysregulation of NPM1 have been associated with several types of cancer, making it a target of interest for cancer research and potential therapeutic intervention .
