Target Information
Sheep insulin plays a pivotal role in glucose homeostasis, similar to its function in humans. It is a key hormone responsible for stimulating the transport of glucose into insulin-sensitive tissues such as skeletal muscle and adipose tissue, where it coordinates nutrient availability with fetal growth. Insulin secretion in sheep is present during the second half of gestation and is regulated by glucose-stimulated insulin secretion (GSIS). It plays a major role in the glucose-insulin axis function, which is altered in animals subjected to maternal malnutrition, affecting long-lasting impacts on endocrine systems.
