Target Information

Sheep NSF, or N-ethylmaleimide-sensitive factor, is an ATPase associated with various cellular activities (AAA) protein that is broadly required for intracellular membrane fusion. NSF functions as a SNARE chaperone, which binds, through soluble NSF attachment proteins (SNAPs), to SNARE complexes and utilizes the energy of ATP hydrolysis to disassemble them, thus facilitating SNARE recycling. This process is crucial for vesicular traffic, ensuring a vectorial flow of membrane proteins and luminal contents through the cell.
