Porcine cytomegalovirus (PCMV) is an enveloped DNA virus classified under the family Herpesviridae and the subfamily Betaherpesvirinae. Also referred to as inclusion body rhinitis (IBR), PCMV affects all age groups of previously uninfected swine, including developing fetuses. While PCMV is specific to pigs, related viruses cause similar infections in numerous other species, including humans.
