Target Information
Borrelia miyamotoi is an emerging human pathogen responsible for causing a relapsing fever-like illness known as B. miyamotoi disease. This bacterium is part of the relapsing fever borreliae group and is similarly transmitted by hard ticks from the Ixodes ricinus complex, akin to spirochetes of the Borrelia burgdorferi sensu lato group. Systematic surveillance of pets could provide valuable insights into human exposure to B. miyamotoi-infected ticks in urban regions. B. miyamotoi encodes the enzyme glycerophosphodiester phosphodiesterase (GlpQ), which is responsible for hydrolyzing deacylated phospholipids into glycerol-3-phosphate.
