Target Information
Bovine erythropoietin (EPO) is a glycoprotein hormone primarily produced by the kidneys, known for its crucial role in stimulating red blood cell production. In cattle, EPO not only supports erythropoiesis but also has been discovered to have implications in tissue protection, regeneration, and reproduction. Studies have shown that EPO inhibits cell death by apoptosis and enhances the fertilizing capacity of Bovine spermatozoa by improving sperm motility, viability, and total antioxidant capacity. It also induces sperm capacitation and acrosome reaction, which are essential for sperm to fertilize the oocyte. This suggests a broader physiological role of EPO in reproductive processes beyond its traditional association with erythropoiesis.
