Target Information
Bovine interleukin 5 (IL-5) is a cytokine that plays a significant role in the immune system of cattle. It is primarily known for its ability to stimulate the growth, differentiation, and activation of eosinophils, which are key cells in allergic reactions and parasitic infections. In cattle, IL-5 contributes to the defense against helminths by promoting eosinophil maturation and function. It also influences B cell differentiation and antibody production, particularly IgA, which is crucial for mucosal immunity. The cytokine helps maintain eosinophil populations and enhances their effector functions, making it an important factor in the inflammatory responses seen in various diseases.
