Target Information
Swine proteoglycan 2 (PRG2) is the predominant constituent of the crystalline core of eosinophil granules, exhibiting antimicrobial activity against Gram-positive bacteria, Gram-negative bacteria, and fungi. PRG2 exists in the placenta and pregnancy serum as part of complexes and is involved in antiparasitic defense and immune hypersensitivity reactions. In swine, research on PRG2 helps to understand its role in allergic diseases, such as epithelial cell damage and bronchospasm. Additionally, the proform of PRG2 acts as a protease inhibitor, reducing the activity of pregnancy-associated plasma protein A (PAPPA), which can affect fetal growth.
