Target Information
Bovine myelin basic protein (MBP) is an intrinsically disordered protein that is localized in the insulating layer of nerve cells in the brain and spinal cord. It is a crucial component of the myelin sheath, which is essential for the proper functioning of the nervous system. MBP is abundant in the central nervous system (CNS) and is involved in the formation and maintenance of the myelin sheath, contributing to the rapid conduction of nerve impulses. It is also known to play a role in the immune response, as it is one of the major myelin sheath autoantigens in conditions like multiple sclerosis (MS).
