Target Information
Canine endothelin 1 (ET-1) is a potent vasoconstrictive peptide primarily produced by endothelial cells. It plays a crucial role in regulating vascular tone and blood pressure by binding to ETA and ETB receptors. In addition to its vasoconstrictive properties, ET-1 acts as a mitogen for vascular smooth muscle cells, modulates adhesion molecule expression on endothelial cells, and serves as a chemoattractant for immune cells. Elevated levels of ET-1 have been associated with various cardiovascular diseases and inflammatory conditions in dogs, including heartworm disease and glaucoma.
